Super-Injunction footballer’s identity revealed

The footballer in the centre of the super-injunction row has been officially outed by Lib Dem MP John Hemming as Manchester United stalwart Ryan Giggs.

Giggs’ lawyers had taken out injunctions against former Miss Wales and Big Brother 7 contestant Imogen Thomas and The Sun newspaper from releasing his name in relation to an alleged affair with Miss Thomas. They have also acquired a High Court order asking social networking giant Twitter to hand over the details of anyone naming him in conjunction with the embargoed story.

While talking in the House of Commons yesterday Mr Hemming said:  “Mr Speaker, with about 75,000 people having named Ryan Giggs it is obviously impracticable to imprison them all.”

Thomas’ publicist, Max Clifford said on ITV One’s Daybreak: “It’s only because of that, and of course the fact that, in that super-injunction that he got to protect his privacy and that of his family, he named Imogen, that the whole thing started down that trail that led to it coming out in Parliament.”

This argument relies on the fact that Thomas wouldn’t have used his name in the kiss-and-tell story she sold to a Sunday Tabloid in April, which she surely would have done if she wasn’t already under the terms of the injunction. But, let’s face it, she would have because a well-known name increases the size of the cheque she’d have received. Especially when the name is one associated with strong family values, Giggs being married and having two children.

Since winning Miss Wales in 2003 and being in Big Brother in 2006 she has appeared in an internet sex tape with her then boyfriend, posed nude in lad’s mags, as well as dating Tottenham player Jermain Defoe and renowned womanizer Russell Brand. This is how these women make their money and it’s time footballers woke up to this.

What would truly shock people is reading about a football player who is monogamous and didn’t hire prostitutes or fall out of clubs and straight into bed with fame hungry slappers.

Both parties in these cases are just as bad as each other, in most cases the footballers we’re talking about are well-known to have families and wives so the women here must know they’re going to bed with a married man. But as long as it doesn’t affect their job or playing ability then why should it matter so much to the rest of the world? It’s no business but his own and his families.

Good news though for ‘readers’ of Nuts and  Zoo, Imogen Thomas and her agent as very soon she will be appearing topless for the first time since her last foray into the limelight for indecent behaviour.

Corruption. Nudity. Footballers. It’s a game of two halves…

And Giggs was hailed as the new Gary Lineker, the ‘good boy’ of football. Researchers, and hailers of such mantles, might just want to go and check their facts on what Lineker did AFTER he hung up his boots…
