Captain Planet to be made into live action film

The 90s cartoon about eco-superhero Captain Planet and his war against pollution with his group of ‘Planeteers’ is to be given the big screen treatment.

The blue-skinned, green-haired being who was the scourge of high polluting eco-villains in the early 90s is to be helped to cinemas by the producers of the first two ‘Transformers’ films, Don Murphy and Susan Montford who produced ‘Shoot ‘Em Up’ and ‘Real Steel’ as well as a team from Cartoon Network.

Speaking about the superhero, Stuart Snyder, president of Turner Programme Services’s children’s division (the production company behind the original TV series), said: “The messages of Captain Planet are even more relevant today. We feel this team can bring the world’s first eco-hero to life in a powerful motion picture that is not only pertinent but entertaining.”

The producers said in a statement: “His adventures are known worldwide and he is recognized across generations. We expect to make a spectacular series of films with the amazing team at Cartoon Network.”

They added, “With the earthquakes, tornadoes, melting icebergs and all the other problems threatening the world right now, Earth really needs her greatest defender.”
