Anywhere But Here, Episode 32 – Syria, Seamus Heaney, Silly Place Names & Skydiving Bears

On this week’s podcast Ant and Tom discuss quite a bit of current affairs including the impending war in the Middle East and the stance the UK has adopted by not sending troops into Syria. The death of Seamus Heaney, the Irish poet who wrote many a poem still studied by English students. Rolf Harris has been changed in connection with the Operation Yewtree investigation and the boys discuss their feeling towards this revelation.

They then lighten the mood somewhat by reporting on the ‘meh-ness’ of the Nintendo 2DS, David Ackerman who launched his teddy bear, Babbage the Bear, into the outer atmosphere to beat Felix Baumgartner’s freefall record. Also, Tenterden (a town in Kent, where Ant and Tom live) has put up Christmas lights 121 days before Christmas!

Tom has a quiz for Ant this week on rude place names in the UK, which ones are true and which are false? Followed hard on the quizzes heels are the ABCs, which this week is ‘R’ and the boys deliver with two each! Tom talks about the video game Red Dead Redemption and the benefits of reading while Ant introduces a new game called ‘rain’ and a cartoon series called ‘RWBY’ by Rooster Teeth (which you’ll be able to see the full trailer for below as the sound was off the scale.).

Yet another fun-packed show for your listening pleasure.

Here’s the poem ‘Digging’ as read by Seamus Heaney:

This is the trailer for RWBY that isn’t in the main podcast, but should be on the YouTube episode:
